This remarkable museum is housed in an eighteenth-century sail makers loft, originally used by Ratsey and Lapthorn, where sails for the Kings racing yacht Britannia were made.

Sir Max Aitken Bt, DSO, DFC was a keen and very able yachtsman and co-founder of the Cowes-Torquay powerboat race. In 1979, Sir Max created a charitable trust to preserve his private collection of marine paintings, nautical instruments, ships models, figureheads, trophies and furniture. Whether you are fascinated by maritime history or just enjoy unique exhibits, the museum is well worth a visit.

Admission is free and the museum is open from 1st May to 30th September.

The venue is available for hire all year round for dinners, drinks parties and meetings. This beautiful building also holds a wedding license.
